ssundas yacht on calm waters

What we offer that a standard charter cannot

The difference between a pleasant boat trip and a genuinely memorable experience comes down to knowledge, preparation, and care. Here is where we put our effort.

Six things that shape every ssundas departure

Strictly Small Groups

A hard cap of eight guests means crew attention is personal, anchoring spots are accessible, and the experience does not feel like a boat tour for thirty.

Naturalist on Every Voyage

A trained marine naturalist is part of the permanent crew — present throughout, available to share context on geology, wildlife, and ecology. Not a hired addition. Part of the team.

Routes with Purpose

Our three itineraries were developed around specific natural and cultural assets. Each has a distinct character, not a generic "island hopping" format with different photos.

Proper Onboard Catering

Meals are prepared fresh by our galley crew using local produce and Malay-Thai recipes. Dietary requirements are accommodated when notified in advance.

Multi-Day Capability

Our vessel is fitted with private sleeping cabins and a full galley for overnight voyages. The cross-border Tarutao trip is possible because the infrastructure is genuinely there.

End-to-End Logistics

Border permits, snorkeling gear, towels, sun protection, safety equipment, dietary accommodations — handled. Guests arrive, we take care of the rest.

Expertise built over seven years on these waters

ssundas's crew spent years working and researching in Langkawi before founding this company. The captain navigated these channels as a commercial mariner. The naturalist studied the mangrove ecology academically. That foundation means guests receive accurate, current information — not scripted commentary.

We continue to update our knowledge: the naturalist participates in Geopark monitoring programs, and the crew attends regional marine safety training every year.

  • Certified MCA Offshore Skipper captain
  • Marine biology-qualified naturalist guide
  • 7+ years of Andaman Sea operational experience
  • Working knowledge of Thai and Malaysian maritime zones
  • Annual crew safety and first aid recertification
  • GPS chart plotter with current regional nautical charts
  • VHF marine radio and satellite emergency beacon
  • Multi-source weather monitoring in 72-hour window
  • Underwater cameras available for snorkeling documentation
  • Marine-grade life-saving apparatus meeting SOLAS standards

Equipment that does its job without drawing attention

The vessel is maintained to current Malaysian marine authority standards. Navigation, communication, and safety equipment is inspected and updated on a regular schedule. On multi-day voyages, the galley is equipped to handle full dietary requirements without compromising on the quality of what reaches the table.

We deliberately avoid technology that performs for guests rather than serves them. There are no elaborate screens or automated commentary tracks. What guests encounter is the sea, the landscape, and people who know both well.

Hospitality that notices the right things

Good service on a yacht is mostly about anticipation and restraint — refilling a glass before it empties, staying nearby when a guest looks uncertain about snorkeling, leaving people alone when they are clearly content watching the horizon.

We ask about dietary needs, motion sensitivity, swimming comfort, and interests at the time of booking. By the time guests board, the crew already understands what would make the day work well for them specifically.

  • Pre-booking intake to understand each guest's needs
  • Dietary restrictions accommodated without fuss
  • Motion sensitivity addressed in itinerary planning
  • Non-intrusive guiding style — engage or observe, your choice
  • Post-tour follow-up with any nature identification questions

ssundas versus typical tour operators

This is not about disparaging others. It is about being honest about what a different kind of operation actually looks like in practice.

What we offer that is genuinely uncommon

Cross-border overnight voyages

The two-day Tarutao crossing requires proper vessel certification, Thai and Malaysian permits, and crew familiar with both maritime jurisdictions. Very few operators in Langkawi offer this as a standard departure.

Geopark specialist knowledge

Our naturalist has worked alongside the Langkawi Geopark authority and can contextualise the formations, ecosystems, and wildlife in terms that are accurate and accessible — not promotional brochure language.

Stargazing at anchor

The overnight Tarutao voyage includes anchoring in an unspoiled cove with minimal light pollution. The crew can identify southern hemisphere constellations and offer context on traditional Malay navigation by stars.

Wildlife sighting documentation

Guests can request a sighting log after each tour listing observed species with identification notes. This is particularly valued by guests with a naturalist interest or those keeping travel records.
